The Nominations/Election Committee is currently comprised of two members, Cathy Hammond and Kent Reichert. During the past year it was charged with the task of developing processes for both nominations and elections at the annual meeting. Pursuant to this task nomination forms and biographical data sheets were developed and placed in the conference packets. Nominations were accepted from 6:00 PM Wednesday through 5:45 PM Thursday. Biographical data sheets were placed on the rolling bulletin board in the lobby. Ballots were produced listing all candidates in alphabetical order. Individual envelopes were created for each conference registrant. These were available at the registration table beginning at 9:00 PM on Thursday. As registrants picked up their ballots they were checked off the master registration sheet. Voters were directed to review the biographical data sheets prior to voting. All ballots were to be cast by 10:30 AM on Friday. Ballots were accepted through 11:00 AM. The results were tallied and presented to the council at the noon meeting on Friday. The committee raised the issue of utilizing e-mail nominations. This was discussed on the council list serve and at the conference itself. The council has asked the committee to further explore this possibility and to report to the council for a decision. The committee has also been asked to review the time frames associated with nominations and the election. There was a sense that the processes in place did not allow adequate time for nominations to made or for individuals to pick-up their ballots and vote. The council has also asked that next year’s ballot contain biographical data on each candidate to facilitate informed voting. The committee has been asked to insure that the nomination/election process reflects the diversity of the organization including but not limited to gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual identity. The ballot should contain individuals working in the curriculum field as researchers and practitioners as well as graduate students. The committee is currently seeking additional members of Curriculum and Pedagogy Group to deliberate these issues and present a plan for next year’s nomination/election process.
