Program Committee members: Kris Sloan (Chair), Donna Adair Breault, Susan Finley, Tom Poetter, Tom Kelly, Gerda Wever, Jacob Easley, Kent den Heyer, Josh Diem Conference Theme Development: This year’s theme, “Democratic Responses in an Era of Standardization” was developed through early email exchanges among those on the committee and was presented to the entire council on February 17th. Special thanks to Donna Adair Breault for initiating ths substance for this year’s theme! Call for papers: Based on this theme, the call for papers was sent out in the first week of March. The deadline for conference submissions was initially set for June 15th, but extended to August 1st. Proposal Review Process: Proposals were distributed to the various strand chairs for blind, external review. It should be noted, that this year’s program committee, like last year’s had a “no reject” policy. However, several proposals were sent back for revisions or clarifications. Proposals Numbers: The following includes the number of conference proposals submitted to each strand and the number of presenters represented: Arts-based Strand—19 (proposals)/33 (presenters) Public Moral Leadership—30/51 Social Action—18/23 Theory in Motion—34/72 Writing—12/19 Conference Program: Programs for this year’s conference were distributed electronically in early September. A final electronic version of the program—with abstracts—was sent to presenters in the first week of October. A hard copy of the program was distributed at the conference.
